Thanksgiving tends to come with a fairly ambitious list of expectations.
A beautiful meal. A clean house. Everyone arriving on time. Nobody discussing that particular subject at the dinner table.
Good luck with that last one.
Here at The Nest, we’ve been thinking about the people we want to thank. And the list gets longer the more we think about it.
The people who stop in on their way to work. The families who let us become part of their afternoon. The person who recommends us to a friend, even though we’ll probably never know they did it.
Our staff, who carry their own responsibilities and still show up to help us carry ours.
The people behind the deliveries, the repairs, the ingredients and all the things a customer should never have to think about when ordering a coffee.
Owning a café gives you a very practical education in how much you depend on other people. You can put your heart into something, work ridiculous hours and care about every detail. You still need people to walk through the door.
Every time you do, you give us another chance to keep building this place.
That deserves more than a quick thank you printed at the bottom of a receipt.
However you spend Thanksgiving, we hope there is something good in it for you. A meal. A phone call. A little peace. Someone else doing the dishes.
