A Catch-Up Shouldn’t Need a Special Occasion

“We should get together soon.”

We’ve all said it. Usually with every intention of actually doing it.

Then work happens. Someone gets sick. The kids need something. A week disappears, followed by another one, and suddenly “soon” has become a season.

There is a strange amount of planning involved in seeing someone you like.

We think part of the problem is that we make the visit too big. Dinner needs coordinating. An entire afternoon is difficult to find. Hosting means cleaning the house, which can turn a friendly invitation into a renovation project.

Coffee is a little more forgiving.

You can meet for half an hour. You can arrive with nothing prepared and no dishes waiting for you afterwards. You can say, “I’ve got a little time on Thursday. Want to meet at The Nest?”

That’s an actual plan. A modest one, but a plan.

Our little café in Breslau gives you somewhere to put it into practice. Order something you enjoy, sit down together and find out what has happened since the last time you spoke properly.

You don’t need a birthday or an anniversary to justify it. Missing someone is a perfectly good reason.

And if you’re reading this while thinking of a particular person, perhaps send the message before you forget.

Give them a day. Give them a time.

“Soon” has had its chance.

Oh.. and wish Martin a Happy Birthday!
