The Nest Café is not your typical small business.
Not at all. Not even close.
It is a true labour of love.
Yes, we sell coffee. We scoop ice cream. We bake things that are probably terrible for your diet and wonderful for just about everything else.
But The Nest was never supposed to be just a café.
We wanted to create a place where people feel welcome. A place where someone can come in every morning for a coffee, meet a friend after a terrible day, bring their kids for ice cream, sit alone without feeling alone, or simply walk through the door and know that they belong here.
Our goal isn’t to be everything to everyone.
It’s to make sure there is something here for everyone.
We believe a small business should be part of the community it serves. Not simply take money from that community, but participate in it. Support it. Give back to it. Stand beside it when someone needs help.
Sometimes that means something big.
More often, it means something very small.
A cup of coffee. A conversation. Supporting a local organization. Helping with a fundraiser. Giving someone a place to sit for a while. Choosing kindness when it would be easier not to.
Our community starts here in Breslau, but it doesn’t end at the edge of town. It extends through Woolwich Township, Waterloo Region, Ontario and across Canada.
Because ultimately, we’re all in this together.
We love our country, with all of its flaws. Loving something doesn’t mean pretending it is perfect. It means believing it is worth caring for, contributing to and making a little better wherever you can.
That’s what we want The Nest to do.
We’re not going to change the world with coffee and ice cream.
But we might be able to change someone’s day.
And if enough people decide that small acts of kindness still matter, maybe changing someone’s day isn’t such a small thing after all.
